T-Mobile CEO: ‘Incredibly Angry’ About Experian Data Breach

Applicants for T-Mobile (TMUS) services or device financing from Sept. 1, 2013 through Sept. 16, 2015 may have been affected by an Experian data breach. An investigation is ongoing into an Experian data breach in which a hacker acquired the records of approximately 15 million people, T-Mobile told customers last week. Here are the details.

An investigation is ongoing into an Experian data breach in which a hacker acquired the records of approximately 15 million people, T-Mobile told customers last week. 

“I am incredibly angry about this data breach and we will institute a thorough review of our relationship with Experian, but right now my top concern and first focus is assisting any and all consumers affected,” T-Mobile CEO John Legere wrote in an open letter. “I take our customer and prospective customer privacy VERY seriously. This is no small issue for us. I do want to assure our customers that neither T-Mobile’s systems nor network were part of this intrusion and this did not involve any payment card numbers or bank account information.”

Experian noted that customer names, dates of birth, addresses, Social Security numbers and other information used in T-Mobile’s own credit assessment may have been compromised during the data breach.

The credit services provider has taken full responsibility for the theft of data from its server and is notifying the individuals who may have been affected.

In addition, Experian is offering free credit monitoring and identity restoration services to all of the consumers who are potentially at risk from this intrusion.

T-Mobile currently provides wireless services to approximately 59 million customers across the United States.
