Welcome back to Distribution Watch, everybody. This week we’ve got the latest updates from our friends at Avnet (AVT), Synnex (SNX) and Ingram Micro (IM) for your enjoyment.
Avnet: Avnet has named Sean Valcamp as its inaugural chief information security officer, responsible for overseeing the distributor’s global IT security. He will also manage the company’s enterprise architecture and strategic planning for IT, according to the announcement.
Valcamp will report to Avnet Chief Information Officer Steve Phillips in his new role. Valcamp is a 16-year veteran of Avnet, and formerly served as the company’s director of IT before his new appointment.
Valcamp in the second executive to take on a new role within Avnet in as many weeks, following the earlier appointment of Kevin Sellers as vice president of corporate marketing and communications.
Synnex: Synnex has partnered with Atlantis Computing to make the company’s portfolio of hyperconverged storage solutions available to North American solution providers.
The deal will provide Synnex partners with access to all of Atlantis’ solutions, including its USX Storage-Defined Software technology and Atlantis HyperScale appliance, according to the announcement.
“Adding Atlantis Computing strengthens our virtualization portfolio by providing exceptionally-fast, cost effective and scalable all flash storage on our customer’s hardware of choice,” said Rob Moyer, vice president of Synnex’ Cloud and Software Services, in a statement. “Synnex’ proprietary integration services and Atlantis Computing’s solutions eliminate the complexity of building a hyperconverged infrastructure, making it easy for our shared customers to order and deploy in their customers’ datacenters.”
Ingram Micro: Ingram Micro will now offer FireEye’s full portfolio of cybersecurity solutions to its partners in North America. Partners will also have access to FireEye HX Endpoint 3.0, the company’s new threat protection solution that includes endpoint protection and enterprise search capabilities, according to the announcement.
“Customers are turning to channel partners to update security solutions and provide guidance on how to protect against threats on the endpoint and coming through email,” said Steve Pataky, vice president of Worldwide Channels and Alliances at FireEye. “Together with Ingram Micro, we can provide channel partners the ability to deliver advanced endpoint and email protection that goes beyond traditional solutions — and, with the FireEye security platform, gain visibility across the organization to identify and remediate threats.”
As part of the deal, FireEye has agreed to become a sponsor of the 2016 Trust X Alliance, a channel community for vendors, service providers and VARs. FireEye said it will work with the alliance to educate and train members on the importance of endpoint security.
Thanks again for joining us, and we hope you get all your holiday shopping done in time for next week’s batch of distributor-centric news. Until then, keep on distributing.
