This just in: The MSPAlliance plans to offer SAS 70 audits for its members -- a smart move considering the growing list of managed service providers, Web hosts and data center providers that are expressing interest in SAS 70. But the MSPAlliance isn't the only association expanding its accreditation and certification efforts. The grapevine says CompTIA and MSP Partners continue to prepare a managed services accreditation program that could be announced within hours or days.
First, let's look at the MSPAlliance's latest moves. The association already offers managed services accreditation (for MSP companies) and plans to introduce MSP certification (for individuals) at its MSPWorld conference in Orlando on April 30.
Now, MSPA President Charles Weaver says the association will expand those efforts to include SAS 70 Type I and II audits. Ironically, MSPmentor mentioned growing demand for SAS 70 audits earlier this week.
The MSPA's SAS 70 offering, available for MSPA members, will involve a third party CPA firm. Additional details will surface at MSPWorld. MSPAlliance member Dan Holt, CEO of HEIT, endorsed MSPA's strategy in a press release. I met Dan down at the recent Kaspersky partner conference in Puerto Rico, and his business (which landed on the MSPmentor 100) is the real deal.
Will the Other Shoe Drop?Meanwhile, sources say CompTIA (the Computing Technology Industry Association) and MSP Partners are jointly developing an accreditation program for the MSP masses. But details about the alleged effort remain sketchy. If/when I receive the official details, I'll share them with readers.
