Cloud M&A: Dimension Data Acquires OpSource
Dimension Data, the $4.7 billion IT solutions provider arm of NTT Holdings, announced the acquisition of OpSource, the enterprise cloud company that took the No. 1 spot on the inaugural Talkin’ Cloud 50 list of top service providers. Dimension Data plans to integrate OpSource into its Cloud Solutions Business Unit, reporting directly to CEO Brett Dawson. It’s all part of Dimension Data’s play to extend its expertise in systems integration to the cloud.
Financial terms of the deal weren’t publicly disclosed. Dimension Data indicated it will onboard all of OpSource’s 150 employees, currently headquartered in Santa Clara, Calif. Moreover, Dimension Data will take on all 600 OpSource ISV, enterprise and service provider customers currently making use of the company’s managed cloud infrastructure and automation expertise, according to the press release.
Here’s what Dimension Data CEO Brett Dawson had to say about the deal in a prepared statement:
“OpSource brings a rich set of services, a sound cloud architecture, and extensive experience in cloud services that will meet immediate client needs – in addition to a cloud infrastructure which supports development and growth in this space. We believe OpSource provides us with an accelerated time-to-market as their infrastructure and services are well-established and tested. Dimension Data is now well positioned to provide our clients with services that help them at each step in their journey toward cloud architectures.”
Intereresting side note: OpSource already had a relationship with Japanese telecom NTT, which, as noted, owns Dimension Data. In fact, OpSource’s cloud is hosted in NTT America data centers. So for Dimension Data, this acquisition was a natural fit when it came time to build out its cloud services.
A timetable for the acquisition wasn’t disclosed, either. But needless to say, TalkinCloud will be watching for more updates from Dimension Data as it makes its foray into the cloud, so stay tuned.
