Google Debuts Commerce Search Program for Channel Partners
Google is promoting its commerce SaaS solutions to cloud integrators, developers and partners with the launch of the Google Commerce Search Reseller Program.
Before this program, Google Commerce Search hadn’t spent much time on TalkinCloud’s radar, largely due to its lack of a formal channel play. But in its blog entry, the big G says the offering “provides the search quality of Google to e-commerce websites with interactive user features such as Suggestions, Search As You Type and Product Recommendations.” National retailers Forever21 and GNC already use it for their own websites.
The first reseller to sign on is mobile commerce specialist Branding Brand, which develops mobile and social applications on behalf of its customers.
That blog entry quotes Branding Brand Co-Founder Chris Mason on Google Commerce Search’s value proposition:
“Mobile users are often action-oriented–whether they’re locating a store, seeing what products are available nearby, or searching for a specific item–so it’s important to quickly provide relevant information in the proper context. Google Commerce Search allows us to do exactly this.”
As for the program itself, Google is offering the usual horde of partner program benefits: a price break on Google Commerce Search licenses, technical training and support, sales tools and training, marketing programs and collateral, and the promise of deeper and more varied partnerships going forward.
And in terms of the services Google sees its commerce partners offering customers, as per the partner program’s landing page:
- Consultation and requirements scoping
- Proof of Concept delivery
- Full site implementation and integration
- UX design
- Ongoing support
- New feature implementations
Finally, Google said it’s primarily looking for partners interested in mobile commerce solution development and solution providers looking to broaden their commerce portfolio.
Between Google Commerce Search, Google Cloud SQL and Google App Engine Premier, Google is really making an effort these last few weeks to expand its cloud channel play past just the Google Apps suite. Now it just remains to be seen if Google Apps Authorized Resellers are looking to expand their businesses along these lines.
