KineticD Betas VMware VM Hybrid Cloud Support for Partners
Cloud backup and recovery vendor KineticD has souped up its Backup for Servers product to support VMware (NYSE: VMW) ESXi servers at the virtual machine host level and is providing the service in a limited time beta to its channel partner roster of 1,100 resellers and managed service providers (MSPs), company officials said.
The 10-year old KineticD, a VMware Elite-level partner whose cloud-based backup solutions target small- to medium-sized businesses (SMBs), said that integrating VMware technology into its product line will result in smaller organizations benefitting from the same class of data protection as large enterprises.
“By integrating VMware into our product line, SMBs will be able to enjoy the same protection and assurance available to large enterprises,” said Jamie Brenzel, KineticD chief executive.
The Toronto-based company banks on SMBs favorably considering transitioning to the cloud and regarding virtualization as an effective way to maximize resources and lower IT infrastructure costs. For example, the VMware ESXi server allows customers to run multiple operating systems and machines from one physical server.
“As the adoption of virtualization grows, it is imperative that we deliver the technology that allows our customers to keep pace with these changes,” said Brenzel.
Kinetic officials said that with the vendor’s hybrid cloud solution, should a machine fail it can be restored locally or from the cloud at the host level. By using the VMware Vstorage API, customers are able to back up data at the VM host level, simultaneously securing all or specific guest operating systems without causing downtime.
Indeed, according to the vendor, using VMware’s Vstorage API coupled with KineticD's block level de-duplication can accelerate VMware backups — sending only incremental data changes and transfers blocks that haven’t been stored in the vault — eliminating unnecessary data at the source and consuming less storage, bandwidth and time.
The opportunity for channel partners resides in adding value to their service offerings through what amounts to a mirrored server in the cloud and the associated cost savings were a disaster to occur.
