EMC and Carmine’s Las Vegas: It’s A Date (I’ll Buy)
The VAR Guy, Nine Lives’ Kim Daniels and EMC‘s Michelle De Hertogh had dinner last night. The big topics of discussion: Storage? Cloud Computing? Sorry, the conversation was off the record. Except for this juicy tidbit: Carmine’s, New York City’s legendary family style restaurant, will open in Las Vegas in Winter 2013. The VAR Guy is a fan. De Hertogh is a fan. Daniels is a fan. Now, if only our resident blogger could shift EMC World‘s date (May 6-9, Las Vegas) to coincide with Carmine’s big opening. Hmmm…
What’s so special about Carmine’s? Italian food. Lots of it. Served in massive “family style” portions.
The ocean called. They’re running out of calamari. You’ll find it over at Carmine’s.
The VAR Guy has never been a big Las Vegas fan. Our resident blogger only bets on sure things — so he avoids the gambling tables and seeks out good food and good conversation. And if you want a great conversation sit down with De Hertogh, EMC’s senior director of global alliances and service providers marketing.
Although The VAR Guy can’t go into deep details, last night’s chatter involved Modernist Cuisine — a cook book by Nathan Myhrvold, Chris Young and Maxime Bilet. Myhrvold is Microsoft’s former CTO.
Sometime during last night’s meal, De Hertogh shifted the conversation to New York City restaurants. Sure enough, Carmine’s became a topic of discussion. Yes, it’s a tourist trap. But The VAR Guy allegedly has a thick Italian blood line, laced with a touch of garlic and red wine. And that restaurant is the real deal.
De Hertogh mentioned Carmine’s is expanding to Las Vegas. Mmmmm… Pencil The VAR Guy in for dinner in Sin City. Our resident blogger will pick up the bill — after he finishes his tiramisu.
