Opsview Open Source Network Monitor Targets MSPs
Open source network and applications monitoring solution vendor Opsview is reaching out to the managed services provider market. Specifically, Opsview has launched a major new release of its flagship product, which apparently provides MSPs with deeper reporting tools. Here are some details.
Opsview Enterprise carries over 100 new features and enhancements, including a new REST API for programmatic control of monitoring infrastructure and out-of-the-box support for the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) and Simple Storage Service (S3) cloud platforms. It also carries compatibility with Slicehost’s VPS cloud environment.
For MSPs, the potential value proposition involves those new reporting tools: with this update, Opsview Enterprise extends reporting capabilities to on-premise, cloud, and virtualized environments alike. Moreover, users can use said tools to compare what they’re getting with what their SLA guarantees. Of course, Opsview isn’t alone in this market. Most of the major RMM (remote monitoring and management) software providers currently manage — or will soon manage — on premise, cloud and virtualized environments. So check in with each company for specific details.
Aligning business priorities with managed service reports also seems to be a growing theme. Notes Opsview Product Manager James Peel in a prepared statement: “Opsview Enterprise is designed to help companies understand how their IT operations impact their business objectives and plan for the future using best-of-breed business intelligence reporting.”
We’ll be watching to see if MSPs embrace Opsview.
