VMware Extends Ready Seal to Networking, Security Partners
Virtualization kingpin VMware (NYSE: VMW) has opened its Ready solutions validation program to networking and security suppliers, adding to eight other existing product categories for which the vendor stamps third-party offerings as certified and optimized for its vSphere and View platforms. The move comes right before VMworld 2012, where VMware is expected to heavily promote private and public cloud initiatives.
What’s in it for networking and security partners? As a source for pre-validated, certified third-party apps that work seamlessly on the VMware cloud infrastructure, there’s a lot to like. Here’s the details:
VMware’s Ready program, part of its Technology Alliance Partner (TAP) program, helps customers spot third-party partner products certified to work with VMware solutions. The idea is to favor products and solutions pre-validated and tested under the program because they have met specific integration and interoperability standards to work with VMware cloud infrastructure.
In this case, the vendor figures that incorporating third-party networking and security products into the vCloud portfolio will speed up deployment of such solutions in VMware environments. The vendor said it will supply networking and security Ready partners with best practices and access to the full set of APIs for virtual networking and security services, supporting integration of both physical and virtual appliances.
In addition to the newly-added networking and security listing, other Ready program categories include hardware, data protection, application software, management solutions, storage virtual appliances, vStorage API for array integration, and desktop solutions.
VMware will provide networking and security Ready program members with partner enablement tools such as reference architectures and hands-on training courses. Partners must pass formal tests to gain the VMware certification and logo to display to customers. Software development kits (SDKs) will be available in October, and final certification for partners will occur in mid-2013. Upon receiving VMware’s endorsement, partners’ solutions are listed in the VMware Solution Exchange.
“The VMware Ready for Networking and Security Program will enable our robust partner community to easily integrate their products with VMware cloud infrastructure, including VMware vSphere and the VMware vCloud product family, to deliver validated joint solutions,” said Hatem Naguib, VMware vice president, networking and security.
Participants include Arista Networks, Bitdefender, Brocade, Emulex, F5 Networks, Infoblox, Juniper Networks, Kaspersky Labs, McAfee, Radware, Riverbed, RSA, Sophos, Sourcefire, Symantec and Trend Micro.
“Expanding the VMware Ready program to include networking and security solutions broadens the ecosystem of jointly supported hardware solutions running with the VMware platform,” said Shaun Walsh, Emulex senior vice president, marketing and corporate development. “This is important as customers evolve their data center environments to keep pace with the burgeoning growth of data, where integrated, compatible and certified solutions make it that much easier to deploy, manage and streamline their IT investments,” he said.
