Avnet Empowers VARs for Amazon Web Services, Cloud Services
Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) and Avnet Technology Solutions (NYSE: AVT) are expected to unveil a cloud computing partnership, Talkin’ Cloud reported. For VARs that offer on-premise database and storage solutions, the Amazon-Avnet relationship could offer a clearer path into cloud services. Here’s why.
For starters, Avnet will help VARs to monetize Oracle’s database running in Amazon’s cloud. Plus, a cloud storage gateway will allow VARs to link customers’ on-premises systems to Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3).
Even if customers aren’t ready to run production database instances in Amazon’s cloud, The VAR Guy foresees channel partners running test and development systems in the Amazon cloud.

The Avnet-Amazon relationship is the latest example of distributors partnering up with cloud services providers. In recent months, Ingram Micro Cloud, Synnex CloudSolv and Tech Data TDCloud have each announced various cloud-oriented partner moves — though the details of each move vary dramatically.
