SaaS: Google Celebrates 10 Millionth Education User

Four years ago this October Google launched the Google Apps for Education suite of student, faculty, and staff-focused cloud productivity and collaboration applications. Fast forward to the present, and Google says the company has landed its 10 millionth education space user on Google Apps. Here are some highlights of Google’s report card.

What stood out to me in the Google Enterprise Blog entry -- appropriately titled “Strike up the band: over 10 million have gone Google with Apps for Education” -- is that it seems to indicate rising momentum in the school market in just this past year with the number of users doubling from Fall 2009.

The blog entry also touted Google’s recent customer gains in the education space this year alone, with public school systems and universities alike migrating to the platform.

But Google’s main competition over at Microsoft [email protected] is also making waves recently. We’ll be watching the SaaS education space closely for further movements from both companies, so stay tuned.
