Dell Cloud Computing Strategy Update: Coming Soon
Dell is gearing up to host its first ever Dell World conference (Oct. 12-14, Austin, Texas). Dell World will be open to channel partners, confirms Greg Davis, VP and general manager, global commercial channels, Dell. It’s a safe bet Dell will offer a timely update to its cloud computing strategy during Dell World.
Overall, Dell says the conference will help CIOs and partners to embrace consumerization and the cloud, harness the power of social networking and virtualization, and overcome the data deluge. The CEOs of Microsoft, Intel, VMware and Salesforce.com are confirmed to speak at the conference. But Talkin’ Cloud will be listening closely to…
1. Stephen Felice President/Consumer, Small & Medium Business: No doubt, the SMB market is critically important to VARs and managed services providers (MSPs). And it’s increasingly important to channel partners focused on cloud computing. Don’t forget: Microsoft sees the Office 365 cloud as a huge opportunity in the SMB market. Will Dell answer with its own SMB cloud initiatives? Perhaps Felice will have some answers. And listen closely for mobile trends from Felice.
2. Stephen Schuckenbrock, President/Dell Services, Dell: Listen for Schuckenbrock to offer some insights on how the cloud impacts security, applications and business processes.
At Dell World, Schuckenbrock will have the opportunity to vastly change the industry’s perception of Dell. In recent years, the company has acquired a range of storage, SaaS, services and even networking companies. But many partners, customers and investors continue to view Dell as a big PC and server maker.
Also of note: Dell’s PartnerDirect channel partner program has made significant gains with hardware and storage resellers. Yes, plenty of partners now applaud Dell’s partner program. But when it comes to SaaS and cloud services, it seems like Dell has lacked a coherent channel-centric strategy.
Perhaps Schuckenbrock and other Dell officials can address that issue during Dell World.
