Sophos Launches Next Version of Mobile Control MDM Platform
Sophos is launching the 2.0 version of its Sophos Mobile Control, its mobile software control solution. What new features does this latest version bring to the table and how can it help VARs, MSPs and IT folks manage corporate mobile device proliferation? Read on for the details …
According to Sophos, Mobile Control 2.0 will support everything from Windows Phone 7 and Android to BlackBerry and, of course, iOS devices. Like many mobile device management (MDM) solutions before it, users get at-a-glance control from a web console. But Sophos says its solution is uniquely designed for IT admins who need a bit more control and a little less hassle. That’s why Mobile Control 2.0 features:
- Enterprise App Store: iOS and Android devices can now have non-app store applications pushed to them at the will of the IT admin. A more benevolent IT admin can also “configure, require or recommend apps to download,” without having to force users into anything.
- Compliance: IT admins can get a quick view to see if mobile devices on their network are meeting corporate compliance rules, while also blacklisting devices or blocking devices that don’t meet basic compliance requirements.
- Self Service: Users can now take a look at their own devices via the web in case a user needs to remotely wipe a lost device or reset a password.
If you’re feeling so inclined, you can watch Sophos’ YouTube video detailing all the fancy MDM features:
Bottom line? 2012 and MDM will likely be synonymous. Check out moves by Motorola at Synnex and RIM’s expansion of BlackBerry Enterprise Server with the Mobile Fusion Management Suite. It’ll be interesting to see how many network and security vendors build out their own MDM offerings in the coming months.
