The acquisition of Swiss-based Sqooba, an AIOps provider, by Open Systems, a secure access service edge (SASE) vendor, based in Switzerland and California, allows Open Systems to add network and business analytics to its managed SD-WAN and security-as-a-service solution, the vendor announced Tuesday. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.

The new capabilities provide businesses with a unified view of their network, applications performance and security posture. Sqooba uses AI and machine learning (ML) to provide real-time visibility across the enterprise operations and business applications.

“Sqooba’s extensive analytics capability is a natural addition to the broad network and security components of our SASE platform and will help us deliver business-critical insights to our customers. Acquiring Sqooba accelerates the 20-year lead we have over our competitors in developing our platform’s managed SD-WAN and security as a service,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Open Systems. “The combination of our managed network and security solution with Sqooba’s analytics expertise will enable enterprises to gain real-time visibility into network and application performance, laying the foundation for a transition to a full SASE architecture.”

Sqooba will operate as a subsidiary of Open Systems with offices in Bern, Switzerland. The company employs more than 30 data scientists, machine learning and software engineers.  Sqooba CEO, Daniel Neuhaus, will retain his role.

According to a recent Gartner report – “The Future of Network Security Is in the Cloud” – at least 40% of enterprises will have explicit strategies to adopt SASE, up from less than 1% at year-end 2018. Gartner defines SASE – secure access service edge – as an emerging offering combining comprehensive WAN capabilities with comprehensive network security functions (such as secure web gateway (SWG), cloud access security broker (CASB), firewall as a service (FWaaS) and zero-trust network access (ZTNA), to support the dynamic secure access needs of digital enterprises.

On a mission to build its MSP footprint globally, Open Systems in 2019 signed distribution agreements with distributor/master agents – Avant Communications in March and Telarus in November – allowing them to offer Open Systems’ managed SD-WAN and security offerings.
