The Planet Giving Away 10TB Of Bandwidth
Web hosting company The Planet is ready to make resellers and developers an offer they can’t refuse: they’re including 10TB of bandwidth free with the purchase of any dedicated server, from the value models all the way on up. But act fast, because The Planet says that the deal only lasts until April 30th. Here’s the scoop.
“With over 250 Gbps of transit and peering capacity, we can afford to provide our customers with gobs of premium Tier-1 bandwidth at no additional charge. You benefit from our investment in the hosting industry’s best network,” says The Planet’s website.
For comparison, both The Planet and competitor Rackspace Hosting usually only offer 2TB of bandwidth – and a quick scan of both company’s offerings shows that The Planet has a more robust line of lower-end (or, to use their terminology, “value”) dedicated server offerings. The Planet has a $99/month Atom D510 server; the cheapest dedicated offering from Rackspace is an AMD Opteron for $419/month.
I don’t think I have to tell anyone reading this how key bandwidth is when hosting anything even remotely data-intensive, from websites to applications. The Planet’s newfound mission of becoming the hosting industry’s value leader has led to a lot of intriguing announcements with huge potential benefits for the channel – I’m eager to see what they come up with next.
