Telecom, Mobile or Cloud? Readers Divided
In our most recent VAR Guy poll, we asked readers to sound off on the results of a recent study by CompTIA, which found three major forces are driving IT sales: mobile, cloud and IT/Telecom convergence. For the first time in a very long time, respondents were almost equally divided on which solution would rule the roost in the coming months.
Twenty percent of readers said a combination of cloud and IT convergence would have the biggest impact on their businesses, with an additional 20 percent of respondents arguing that a combined mobile and cloud strategy would come out on top in terms of overall business impact. Twenty percent of readers voiced their confidence in the power of IT/telecom convergence as a driving business factor.
Mobile and cloud standalones, as well as the mobile/IT convergence combination each garnered 10 percent of the total vote, signaling no one is really sure where the market is heading in the near future. An additional 10 percent of voters said all three solutions would be equally important in impacting their businesses.
While it’s hard to glean much information from these particular results, its important to remember that none of the respondents responded "none"—proof, of sorts, that the solutions would impact every business. This signals that while the industry may not be completely sure of a clear winner this early in the race, we can all agree these three solutions will each play a major role in deciding the direction of channel business as we look to the new year. And for now, the only thing to do is sit back and watch what happens next.
