Astaro: 2010 Was a Year of Security Growth, Acquisition
Much of the IT industry spent 2010 keeping afloat, but for unified threat management (UTM) specialist Astaro, 2010 was actually a year of growth — thanks to organic wins plus strategic acquisitions. In fact, Astaro claims the the company grew more than 30 percent in 2010, and more than 50 percent in Q4 of 2010. And partners were key to that growth.
Astaro’s inorganic growth can be attributed to its acquisition of Romania-based CoSoSys, which provides mobile data protection for PCs and Macs. Astaro’s strategy was an odd one, however: CoSoSys was scooped up because its solution was “complicated, decentralized management.” Astaro aims to take the best of that technology, which then will be assimilated into the Astaro Security Gateway to provide central security management regardless of endpoint location. CoSoSys’ staff will be integrated into Astaro’s development team.
Hop over to Denmark, where Astaro set its sights on InspektOnline, provider of hosted log management simplification. Astaro plans to integrate InspektOnline’s log prowess into its own log management offerings to achieve compliance with PCI-DSS and other administration needs.
In 2011, Astaro has plans for even more technology innovations, including:
- Astaro Application Control/Next Generation Firewall, for Web 2.0 filtering
- Astaro Endpoint Security, to manage mobile devices through a centrally deployed security agent
- Astaro Log Management, for a centrally stored and analyzed log database
Partners also can expect a consolidation of security products along with a renewed investment in the core UTM products that Astaro was built on, according to the company.
