Quest Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: QSFT) released its latest virtual data protection solution vRanger 6.0 to responding to a desire by IT organizations for a single solution to protect both physical and virtual machines. A recent Quest Software survey revealed that 86 percent of organizations use more than one solution for data protection but that more than half of organizations would ultimately prefer a single solution to protect their physical and virtual machines.
vRanger 6.0 provides users with the ability to backup and restore physical Windows servers through a single-source that includes both virtual and physical environments. The solution delivers OS support for Windows Server 2003 and 2008, as well as Windows Server 2012. vRanger 6.0 also accommodates Microsoft users with consistent snapshot backups for Exchange, SQL Server, SharePoint, and Active Directory via Microsoft’s VSS.
To simplify the backup and recovery of physical servers, vRanger 6.0 offers the following features:
- Online backups
- Application-consistent backup copies
- Incremental and differential backups
- Active Block Mapping Technology, which peeds backups and reduces storage space
- Resource management
- Native cataloging to find and recover files quickly.
Dell announced in early July that it would acquire Quest Software.
