A new report names Cisco as the top provider of video-conferencing equipment, followed by Polycom and Huawei.

Infonetics Research’s first-quarter Enterprise Telepresence and Video Conferencing Equipment market share and forecast report tracks dedicated and PBX-based video-conferencing and telepresence infrastructure and endpoints (desktop, telepresence, videophones, multipurpose rooms and software).

Worldwide revenue for enterprise video-conferencing and telepresence equipment and software slipped to $661 million in 1Q13, down significantly 20 percent from the previous quarter. But it’s not all bad news.

"Dedicated video systems continue to struggle, but PBX-based systems are picking up the slack," said Matthias Machowinski, directing analyst for enterprise networks and video at Infonetics Research. "Declines in dedicated systems (down 26 percent from the fourth quarter of 2012) are almost perfectly offset by growth in PBX systems (up 18 percent from Q4), which doubled year-over-year in the first quarter of 2013, as enterprises seek out lower-cost multimedia communication solutions."

The report also revealed that videophones represent the fastest growing hardware endpoint segment, posting another strong quarter. EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) surprised in the first quarter, beating growth in North America and Asia Pacific.
