WorldPort Taps C&W Chief as CEO

In yet another high-profile move, emerging carrier Worldport Communications Inc.,
Atlanta, is solidifying its position in the international telecommunications market with
the appointment of Carl J. Grivner as its president and CEO. Grivner is the former chief
executive, Western Hemisphere, including the United States, for Cable and Wireless plc.

Effective June 21, Grivner will take the helm of the international telecommunications
company. He also will serve on its board of directors. Grivner replaces founder and former
CEO Paul A. Moore, who will serve on the company’s board of directors.

At Cable & Wireless, Grivner was responsible for business units contributing $500
million in operating profits and $2.5 billion in revenues in 1998.

With a technical, marketing and management background in IBM and Ameritech, Grivner was
previously CEO of telecom equipment maker Advanced Fibre Communications, Petaluma, Calif.
