Sophos CEO Kris Hagerman is blurring the lines between unified threat management (UTM) and endpoint security.

IT security vendor Sophos has launched  Complete MSP Security, a partner program for managed services providers (MSPs) that want to protect customer networks, endpoints, and mobile devices.

Sophos has been working in and around the MSP market — testing partner approaches — for more than a year. The company faces plenty of competition from security rivals. A few examples:

So how does Sophos plan to differentiate? Through the Complete MSP Security partner program, MSPs gain centralized management, a self-provisioning licensing program, usage-based pricing and pay-as-you-go monthly billing. The program does not required any up-front commitments.

CharTec COO Shane Swanson said in a prepared statement that this new partner program will be a “major game changer for the entire industry.”

“Having the ability to have a true pay-as-you-go offering for our UTM offering is exactly what we as MSPs have been asking for from the industry,” he said. “And it’s extremely rewarding to know that Sophos is not only listening to their partners, but taking action on our feedback.”

Sophos Worldwide Sales and Channel Senior Vice President Mike Valentine said in his prepared remarks that Sophos developed the program closely with MSPs to design a solution that fit the needs of their customers.

“As a channel-first company, the goal of this program – from its inception – has been to make it easy for MSPs to manage and grow their businesses with us, and we believe our new program will result in tremendous growth for them,” he said.

The company expanded the Sophos UTM’s features in May 2013 to include: UTM managed endpoint protection, broader wireless coverage for large scale wireless deployments and higher performance networking, aiming to alleviate any complexities of securing networks.
