Microsoft talks a big game in the channel, but The VAR Guy doesn’t fall for bluster — we want to see action. So when systems integration and IT services firm Laurus Technologies announces that they’re starting a whole new Microsoft Solutions Practice, we take note. Here’s the scoop.

According to Laurus’ press release, the new practice will focus on deployments of the Microsoft BPOS cloud productivity suite, the SharePoint collaboration platform, the Lync unified communications server, and the ubiquitous Microsoft Exchange and Office products.

That same press release indicates that Laurus Technologies will leverage Microsoft virtualization and cloud technologies to custom-tailor solutions for customers. It sounds like Laurus really sees a demand for Microsoft-based solutions in the IT marketplace, and they’re betting heavily that this investment will pay off for them.

Still, we know plenty of VARs that are trying to get their arms around BPOS (Business Productivity Online Suite). Microsoft says BPOS has roughly 16,000 partners, though it’s unclear how many of those partners have earned multiple cloud customer wins. Also, we’re still trying to pinpoint how much recurring annual revenue Microsoft’s top BPOS partners are generating.

In the meantime, Microsoft is striving to keep its partners happy — let’s see if they can generate enough goodwill to keep their channel momentum going.
