Demand for IT pros with virtualization and networking skills is rising faster than businesses can find qualified employees. This reality is likely the impetus behind a partnership between Cisco Systems (CSCO) and EMC (EMC) to step into the void and offer technical education solutions in the areas of cloud architecture, virtualization, storage, data center networking and data science. Read on for the details.

The joint education solutions from Cisco and EMC, which also will incorporate courseware from VMware, will offer advanced training and certifications to build skills required to architect IT infrastructures, adopt cloud computing and get a bead on the all-important areas of Big Data and data science.

The training uses curricula from all three vendors to address various disciplines, and will encompass areas of specialty including Cloud Architect, Systems Administrator, Storage, Backup and Recovery, Data Center Networking, Data Center Network Design, Systems Management and Data Scientist. Bundled and a la carte courses will be available via instructor-led training and, in the case of some of the EMC content, via video learning.

The idea behind the new education program is to prepare IT employees to work with new and emerging technologies such as Big Data, which, according to Cisco, “affect not only IT systems and infrastructures, but also the practitioners that design, install, operate and manage them. New job roles are emerging that require next-generation skill sets. New skills and knowledge are needed for organizations, managers and individual end users to maximize the benefits of these new technologies.”

The education solutions are available now directly from Cisco or EMC.

To be sure, much of the education aligns with the Vblock joint effort also between Cisco, EMC and VMware. I’m willing to bet there’s a good reason for that. But anything that links education to business value is a good deal in my book.
