Amazon Web Services (AWS) vet Stephen Orban will join Google Cloud later this year in a senior leadership role.

The AWS vet will develop strategy and programs for customers migrating to Google Cloud. He’ll report to Kevin Ichhpurani, Google Cloud’s corporate vice president of global ecosystem and channels.

Google Cloud isn’t saying when Orban is coming on board or whether this is a newly created role. AWS confirmed he has already vacated his role with the cloud giant.

“We’re delighted to welcome Stephen to the Google Cloud team,” a company spokesperson said.

Here’s our list of channel people on the move in May.

Google Cloud’s Stephen Orban

Orban has been with AWS for nearly eight years. His most recent role is vice president of AWS Marketplace, partner engineering and ISVs. His responsibilities have included leading AWS Marketplace, inventing and building AWS Data Exchange, and leading AWS’ global enterprise strategy.

Before joining AWS, Orban held the role of executive vice president, CTO and CIO at Dow Jones. And before that, he held various technology leadership roles at Bloomberg across their terminal and media businesses.

Leading Industry Voice

Orban is one of the leading voices in the industry on cloud, enterprise IT, and cloud go-to-market, partnerships and marketplaces. He’s overseen engineering, product, sales and channel operations in his roles at AWS, and worked alongside leading software and services providers.

Last month, Google Cloud announced it has created a new division, the Global Strategic Customers and Industries organization. The strategy ties to Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian’s commitment that partners are involved in all deals.

Google Cloud bills the Global Strategic Customer and Industries organization as one that connects customers “across all industries, to the best technologies and services across Google and Google Cloud.”
