T-Mobile and Lumen Technologies are expanding their relationship to allow access to Lumen’s Edge Computing platform over the T-Mobile 5G network.

This will allow enterprises to build, manage and grow applications across distributed environments. Enterprises can extend applications across them as well. That includes hundreds of thousands of on-net enterprise locations on the Lumen fiber network with T-Mobile’s 5G network.

As part of this collaboration, T-Mobile will also become a preferred wireless connectivity partner for Lumen. That will provide a more flexible connectivity solution for all enterprises.

Garrett Gee is Lumen’s senior vice president of indirect sales.

“The Lumen strategy is highly complementary to what mobile carriers like T-Mobile are doing to serve parts of the enterprise market,” he told Channel Futures. “For Lumen channel partners, who have access to sell Lumen’s full technology portfolio, this collaboration will give them more opportunity to help customers manage workloads across highly distributed environments. Our partners can also better help their customers optimize latency and performance for their applications across public, private and hybrid networks.”

Combining Strengths

Lumen is strong in fiber-based networking and edge computing services, Gee said. And T-Mobile is strong on wireless networking for business.

“However, where hybrid solutions require a mix of both domains, we feel that a combination of our core competencies will help us and our channel partners compete more effectively in the market,” he said.

Partners can work with their clients to further understand how they are creating value from enterprise data connected to the Lumen network, Gee said.

“This is just the start of our collaboration,” he said. “In the short term, this alliance will benefit T-Mobile customers in needing optimization of workloads in closer proximity to digital interactions, as well as Lumen customers in need of expansion of the ways that device data can be acquired across mobile communications protocols. Lumen will also be exploring stronger interconnection arrangements with T-Mobile to further help integrate our joint value proposition for customers seeking optimal workload performance between both networks.”

Mike Katz is executive vice president of T-Mobile for Business.

“By pairing America’s largest and fastest 5G network with Lumen’s enterprise solutions, we can break down industry barriers and deliver unparalleled network reach to enterprise and government organizations looking to optimize their applications across networks,” he said. “With our leading 5G network, Lumen and T-Mobile have the opportunity to accelerate business innovation in an era where the network is more critical than ever.”

Both companies will also continue to drive innovation through T-Mobile’s labs and Tech Experience Center, and the Lumen Edge Experience Center.
