Polycom and Motorola Team for Telepresence on the Xoom Tablet

In February 2011, we wrote that Fuze Meeting was slated to be the first video collaboration software to debut on the Motorola Xoom Android-based tablet. Now, Polycom and Motorola are joining forces to expand the Xoom’s use in the business world with Telepresence integration. Read on for the details …

Polycom is leveraging the Xoom to offer even more collaboration choices for businesses. It’s a smart move, since the Xoom has debuted as one of the more robust Android tablets on the scene. Polycom’s telepresence video application on the Xoom can connect to  Polycom’s UC Intelligent Core, making the Xoom an instant portal to one-on-one or group video experiences.

Polycom promises its UC Intelligent Core platform allows the Xoom to be mobile and connected safely and securely without needing additional network configurations. The Xoom already support a number of industry standards that make it easy to integrate with existing systems.

The Polycom Telepresence app for the Xoom is slated to be available in the second half of 2011. I’ll be looking forward to see how many companies adopt the Xoom solution with Polycom Telepresence, because it quite directly competes with Cisco’s Cius tablet, which shares similar features and the Android operating system.
