Backup and disaster recovery vendor Acronis will acquire GroupLogic, a company specializing in securing enterprise file sharing to stem the rise of the insecure file sharing practices that have followed increased mobility and the drive for more collaboration. The companies announced the deal today. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Acronis called the acquisition “a significant component of [its] vision to address new market demands for data availability, accessibility and protection against the rise in enterprise mobility, the volume and velocity of content creation, user driven collaboration tools and rising storage costs.”

Announcing the deal, Acronis President and CEO Alex Pinchev noted that confidential corporate content regularly leaves the network on devices such as the iPad or via the public cloud. “We are positioned to help organizations of all sizes realize the benefits of enterprise mobility and secure collaboration,” he said, ” while keeping corporate content and systems available at all times.” (Pinchey joined Acronis from Red Hat in December 2011.)

GroupLogic has most recently extended mobile support for SharePoint servers and also for Mac files and documents. GroupLogic debuted activEcho in the spring, billed as the industry’s first secure enterprise file sharing solution for both IT and end users.

Arlington, Va.-based GroupLogic employees, including CEO Chris Broderick, will join the Acronis team. Acronis is based in Woburn, Ma.
