Avnet's Rorke Data Unleashes Galaxy Aurora 36-Bay RAID

There’s no doubt storage continues to be a sure thing in the channel — everybody needs a place to store their stuff, right? Avnet’s Rorke Data feels the same way, too, and has released the Galaxy Aurora 36-Bay RAID storage solution, specifically designed to hit a low price-per-gigabyte and a high performance benchmark. The Galaxy Aurora 36 is specifically aimed at the high-performance needs of the content creation market, and has been developed to be flexible, with the ability to use the appliance as a direct-attach RAID system, or with SAN applications. This strategy is not new — Dot Hill has its version in its AssuredSAN. And like Dot Hill, Rorke Data plans to debut the Galaxy Aurora 36 at NAB 2011.

With RAID 6 storage, the Galaxy Aurora can support multistream workflows with shared files, something highly needed in the post-production video process. Up to a 4500MB/sec transfer rate can be achieved, along with 108TB per enclosure, with 12- or 24-bay enclosure options available should 36 bays be too many. HyperFS, Xsan, StorNext and other SAN file systems are supported, and Rorke Data has outfitted the Aurora 36 with zero-impact drive rebuilding features in the event of a drive failure as well as realtime performance tunings to prioritize I/O bandwidth.

Resellers working with Rorke Data in the United States and Canada can get their hands on the Galaxy Aurora 36 now.
