Autotask Hires CFO With IPO, M&A Experience

Autotask has hired Vince Zumbo (pictured) as chief financial officer. Zumbo joins Autotask as the PSA (professional services automation) specialist expands its executive ranks and leverages the cloud to build tighter bonds between solutions providers and their end-customers. Zumbo has extensive experience with high-tech IPOs (initial public offerings), mergers & acquisitions, and exit strategies.

Still, let’s not jump to any conclusions. Autotask had been searching for a CFO since around mid-2010. But first, the company hired Mark Cattini as CEO in December 2010, shifting Co-Founder Bob Godgart to the Chief Visionary Officer position. At the time, Cattini and Godgart told me Autotask expected to hire a CFO within weeks. Also during our December 2010 discussion, Cattini told me he considered Autotask a long-term growth opportunity rather than a short-term M&A exit opportunity — though he offered the usual qualifier statement indicating that you can never predict exactly what the future holds.

Fast forward to the present and Autotask’s Web site now includes Zumbo’s executive biography. Zumbo’s LinkedIn profile says he joined Autotask in January 2011. During his 30-year career, Zumbo has…

  • sourced over $50 million in venture capital and alternative financing.

  • served as CFO of ServiceBench, a SaaS company later acquired by National Electronics Warranty.

  • served as VP at Formtek, a start-up later acquired by Lockheed Martin.

  • served as director of finance at Paradyne Corp., which ultimately launched a successful IPO.

Still, I want to reiterate: I’m not suggesting Autotask is pursing a near-term IPO or company sale. Instead, I think Zumbo’s growth-oriented experience in high-tech impressed Autotask. Plus, Zumbo earned his degree from Siena College, located just outside of Albany, N.Y. (where Autotask is headquartered). That proximity suggests Zumbo is familiar with the region.
