HP Unlocks Latest Green Energy Initiative in Time for Spring

The VAR Guy has been seeing the technology sector ‘go green’ for the better part of 10 years. HP certainly has done more than its share of green initiatives, but that’s not stopping the company from resting on its laurels. Now, HP is moving forward with a bevy of new products, services and HP Labs research to help customers (and likely the channel) reduce their energy usage. Read on for The VAR Guy’s quick details on the earth-hugging initiative …

First, HP has introduced the EcoSMART portfolio, which strives to provide energy-efficient solutions to reduce potential energy costs by 30 percent. When combined with HP’s new Managed Print Services, users can reduce those costs by as much as 80 percent according to HP. That’s an impressive number. Included in the lineup is HP’s EcoSMART fleet, which compliments new console software to show real-time performance of business resources. If a company has a good idea of how resources are being used, it’s halfway to energy savings right there.

The VAR Guy noted with interest that HP is pushing these initiatives beyond the business and into the home. HP is touting some new research tools that use sensors and HP “gateways” inside the home to track energy consumption in each room. With HP’s prototype technology, HP said its technology can check on water, gas and electrical usage, too. (Finally, The VAR Guy might be able to tell if he’s left too many computers on, or if he should cut back on the number of verses sung in the shower.)

HP is kicking off the latest initiative with The HP Unlocking Your Energy tour,  a “… global initiative to demonstrate how energy efficiency, sustainability and profitability are compatible concepts for consumers and businesses,” according to HP. A list of panel attendees who’ll be rocking with HP and Mother Nature are included in the press release.

What’s more, HP has also launched the HP EcoSolutions Store, which features existing Energy Star-qualified products that can help SMBs and consumers easily pick out energy-saving technology.

The VAR Guy is all for technologies that make our world a more sustainable place to live, and HP has spelled out its position in “Unlocking Your Energy.” HP and other companies that are working to minimize the impact technology has on our planet at the very least should be commended for their efforts.
