VMware and educational book publisher Pearson have teamed to create a publishing alliance to provide virtualization learning and certification resources. Dubbed “VMware Press,” the alliance will be VMware’s official publishing entity for a suite of verification technology information. Read on for what books The VAR Guy may be checking out of the VMware library …

There’s no word on whether the materials will be free, but VMware Press will be available in multiple languages and will focus on three specific content types:

  • Technical Books: ebooks and videos are at VARs’ disposal, concentrating on educating the partner about specific applications of virtualization

  • Decision Making Books: more ebooks and videos which focus on business aspects of virtualization

  • Certification Materials: official materials that support VMware’s certification program

No surprise to The VAR Guy, the topics covered will be from the VMware family of technology, inlcuding VMware vSphere, VMware View, vCenter, vCloud and more. The content for these publications will come from “expert authorities, IT professionals” and other VMware gurus who specialize in specific VMware technologies, according to the company.

The VAR Guy is sensing a bigger picture here, along with an interesting trend: Education is once again big in the channel, with Tech Data’s launch of TDCloud Academy, Bocada’s recent foray into helping MSPs integrate Prism data solutions, and Panda Security’s latest portal to better educate VARs on their customer needs. Even Brocade Networks has put an emphasis on education, promising low-cost training and certification for its partners. The VAR Guy is feeling some serious love from vendors who are reaching out and embracing the channel model and he likes it.
