Tommy Hilfiger Gets Fitted for Cisco TelePresence

There’s something to be said when managed service technology meets clothes. BT is using ‘virtual fitting room’s for Tommy Hilfiger, and it’s being delivered by a ubiquitous Cisco Telepresence solution. It’s designed to reduce travel time and costs, while speeding up the time new products see the light of day in the market. Here’s the techno nitty gritty…

In case you were wondering, indeed, BT is the same BT company you may have notice when traveling to the UK. They provide complete audio, video and web collaboration services and a supplier for video conferencing services worldwide. So the managed service partnership with Cisco seems like a match made in video-conferencing heaven.

Tommy Hilfiger, of fashion fame, has signed a five-year managed services contract with BT. It works like this: BT provides the video-conferencing solution, and virtual fitting rooms, which BT and TANDBERG co-developed. And as we know, TANDBERG tech is now Cisco tech. The idea is to make it easy to connect styles and offices across Amsterdam, New York, Hong Kong and Tokyo. More units could be in the future, too.

The new video technology will let teams discuss the development of every piece of clothing collections, and not have to travel as frequently to get a more up-close and personal look at clothes and people. Immersive video is Cisco’s claim to fame.

Of course, what mainstream fashion company doesn’t come with a green-spin? Bas Burger, CEO BT Benelux brought up the point that:

“This solution will also significantly lower carbon emissions. It is a good example of where sustainability and cost-savings go hand-in-hand. We at BT understand that sustainability is not an altruistic activity. To sustain the business, investments need to show return.”


Lastly, Hilfiger will be getting BT’s “One Source For TANDBERG” which is a complete managed services wrap including a 24/7 help-desk, automated call scheduling and launching, plus on-site maintenance of systems coupled with system monitoring and remote diagnostic. Not too shabby. BT’s goal is to provide a one-stop shop should anything go wrong or need a tweak.

It sounds like they got that covered.
