BT, Xerox Win Managed Print Services Deal

BT — the European service provider — and Xerox have scored a managed print services contract with Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council, which represents the Sandwell municipality in the United Kingdom. The win is an important reminder that Xerox continues to work with channel partners on managed print services engagements.

The BT-Xerox partnership focuses on helping Sandwell in three areas: efficiency, sustainability and cost savings of up to 30 percent in Sandwell’s printing department alone.

The biggest change? BT and Xerox will replace 1,500 of Sandwell’s printers with 150 new, energy-saving multi-functional printers. Also included in the BT-Xerox project is “follow-Me” printing — a program that will enable any staff member to send a print job from any device on any floor within the Council’s office.

According to a prepared statement from Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council Council Finance Director Stuart Kellas:

“This initiative with Xerox and BT not only saves the council a significant amount of money straight away, but will ensure costs are controlled and managed over the lifetime of the agreement. The partnership’s joint expertise gives great confidence that our crucial cost-reduction, service and wider business objectives will be delivered.”

Overall, managed print services continue to generate more and more buzz — though only about 20 percent of MSPs offer managed print services to their customers, according to fourth-annual MSPmentor 100 survey results, released in February 2011.

Many printer companies have promoted managed print services directly to enterprise customers. But in recent months, a growing number of printer makers have promoted managed print services to SMB channel partners.
