Datameer will soon be updating its Big Data analytics application that was built for the Hadoop ecosystem. The latest version, Datameer 5.0, will have new capabilities through the Smart Execution engine, which the company noted can intelligently and dynamically select the best-of-breed compute framework at each step in the Big Data analytics process.

Smart Execution was designed to match dataset characteristics to determine the most efficient compute framework based on the size of the current analytical task. For those using Hadoop, Datameer is promising a simpler experience over other tools that it stated creates complexity, mostly because frameworks are generally designed for either small or large data. By using Datameer 5.0's capabilities, which will be released in the fourth quarter, organizations should have automatic selection of frameworks based on the analytical requirements.

"Smart Execution takes our vision of making Big Data analytics simple one step further by creating a new standard for data analysis," said Stefan Groschupf, CEO of Datameer, in a prepared statement. "Now users don't have to think about the best technology to analyze their data because it's intelligently done for them, and they can instead spend their time focusing on discovering insights that matter."

It could be a time-saving method that increases the efficiency of Hadoop-based Big Data analytics.

In its announcement, Datameer quoted Tony Baer, principal analyst at Ovum: "Datameer is addressing an emerging bottleneck with Big Data computing. As Hadoop becomes multi-purpose, it is drawing a wider variety of workloads. Some utilize large clusters more efficiently than others. With Smart Execution, Datameer is introducing optimization that caches and directs the right workloads to the right execution engines."

As Hadoop continues to gain traction in cloud-based Big Data analytics, tools that make it simpler could further its market share gains.
