Rackspace, the managed cloud provider, has created a new business unit called Cloud Office, with the goal of unifying its portfolio of Microsoft business productivity and collaboration tools.

Cloud Office solutions include hosted Microsoft Exchange and Rackspace Email, Microsoft Lync and Microsoft SharePoint collaboration tools, and Jungle Disk backup services, all backed by “Fanatical Support.”

“We’ve combined the power and expertise of ‘Rackers,’ who understand that each customer has unique needs in their work environment, with a broad selection of productivity tools to help customers manage and run their business in a way that meets their specific needs,” said Bret Piatt, general manager of Cloud Office at Rackspace. “We are proud to deliver this IT productivity suite as a service to exciting new companies as well as established brand names including Edelman, Jordan Lawrence, Star Network Services and 42 Inc.”

Customers also have access to the following tools supported by Cloud Office:

  • Communicate with email hosting: A variety of hosted email solutions are available including Microsoft Exchange and Rackspace Email.

  • Collaborate with Microsoft SharePoint and Lync: SharePoint will manage and maintain custom scalable solutions and customers can access secure instant messaging and video calling with Lync.

  • Backup and Protect Data with Jungle Disk: With both online and cloud file storage, files can be shared and protected.
