COMPTEL: View from the Top Session to Offer Wealth of Perspective

The three executives featured in today’s “View from the Top” panel have a breadth of experience in communications, and that’s ex-actly what led COMPTEL to tap them for this session, says COMPTEL CEO Jerry James, who will lead this afternoon’s discussion.

Dan Caruso, president and CEO of the Zayo Group Inc., has been through several acquisitions; William (Bill) Capraro, CEO of CIMCO Communica-tions Inc., has had a long run at a stable company; and Randall (Randy) E. Curran, CEO of Deltacom, has experience as a turnaround CEO, says James.

Caruso’s Zayo Group, which through its various businesses provides bandwidth, voice and managed services to carrier, enterprise, SME and government customers, in December announced the acquisition of Tulsa, Okla.-based Citynet Fiber Network. Earlier, Zayo Group purchased Min-neapolis-based telecommunications provider Onvoy as well as Indiana Fi-ber Works. And around the time of the inception of Zayo Group, Memphis Networx and PPL Telcom were brought into the fold.

Capraro in the mid 1980s actually founded Chicago-based CIMCO, which is now the largest privately held communications company in the Midwest. Since it was established, Capraro has led CIMCO to achieve steady, profitable growth at an average 40 percent annual rate, with a 98 per-cent customer retention rate.

As for Curran, he took the helm of Deltacom in February 2005. He previ-ously served as chairman and CEO of ICG Communications Inc., prior to which he served as chairman, president and CEO of Thermadyne Holdings Corp.

Today’s program will give each of these executives the opportunity to tell the COMPTEL audience their stories of leadership; offer their per-spectives on the communication industry’s past, current position and future prospects in terms of technology, regulation, M&A and market un-knowns; and provide tips on management and achieving work/life balance.
