VMware Partners with Vera for Security Management Across IT Environs

VMware (VMW) has partnered with security startup Vera to integrate data security and end user visibility into its Unified Application Management Suite, providing centralized management of security across physical, virtual or cloud-based environments.

Vera, based in Palo Alto, California, offers technology that protects data wherever it goes rather than securing endpoints or specific data or location on the network, according to the company. Vera’s solution allows an enterprise to secure and track any digital information across all platforms and devices.

Vera’s security solution has three core functions. It streamlines the deployment, configuration and compliance monitoring of security across IT environments, making it easier to implement these solutions without impacting the end-user experience, the company said in a press release.

The company’s technology also secures end user computing with encryption, tracking capabilities and security audits for all data—whether it’s in use, in motion or at rest. It also allows for its customers to revoke or change access to confidential information instantly through user or company-managed policies to better protect data.

The third core function of Vera’s solution is to provide centralized insight into usage, events and access by simplifying the monitoring and management of data security across the enterprise. This allows security teams to measure data use, end user access, and policy compliance, as well as detect potential data breaches proactively, according to the company.

Partnering with VMware brings this functionality into its application-management platform, allowing the virtualization giant to extend data security, control and policy management across any IT environment, be it physical, virtual or cloud-hosted, Vera said.

Under the terms of the partnership, Vera is integrating its technology directly into VMware’s unified application management platform, allowing the security software to work within existing workflows without impacting end user productivity, the company said.

Vera’s integration with VMware’s application management suite gives IT and security teams a centralized way to manage not only applications and desktops but also the security of data across the entire IT stack, said Vera CEO Ajay Arora in a blog post on the company’s site.

“For the first time, business can successfully manage devices, users, applications, and security across physical and virtual environments, at the click of a button,” he said. “Together, we’re giving you the ability to not only centrally manage every desktop, but also protect every file, every communication your employees create no matter which tools they choose to use.”

This centralized approach not only to data and application management but also security allows companies to have more visibility to any suspicious activity so action against it can be taken more quickly to safeguard against data or other security breaches, Arora added.
