Backup and Recovery developer Veeam’s latest edition of its prized data protection software—Backup & Replication v7 for virtualized environments—comes equipped with built-in wide area network (WAN) acceleration and the capacity to back up from SAN snapshots in Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) storage settings.

According to Veeam, the software’s internally developed and optimized WAN acceleration feature, which copies data to offsite locations as much as 50 times faster than a regular copy file, is one of but seven significant modifications along with an additional 50 tweaks included in the new version, such as integration with Microsoft (MSFT) SharePoint and VMware’s (VMW) vCloud, virtual machine and guest files self-service recovery and native tape support.

In addition, Veeam has incorporated backup from storage snapshots for HP’s StoreVirtual Storage and its 3PAR StoreServ Storage to improve recovery point objectives (RPOs) and reduce stress on the virtual infrastructure while allowing IT administrators to backup as often as needed.

Veeam has added Enterprise Plus—which includes the built-in WAN acceleration and storage snapshot backup features—to its existing free, standard and enterprise editions of Veeam Backup & Replication. Version 7 will be available in Q3 2013, priced at $750 per socket in North America for the standard edition, $1,250 per socket for the enterprise edition and $1,999 per socket for the Enterprise Plus version. The free edition will still be available at Veeam’s website.

The developer also is offering a free upgrade to existing Enterprise Edition customers and those who purchase or upgrade to Enterprise Edition prior to July 1. The offer runs through Nov. 1.

"Veeam provides organizations with powerful, easy-to-use and affordable modern data protection that’s built for virtualization,” said Ratmir Timashev, Veeam president and chief executive. “With this latest version of our flagship software, we’re once again disrupting existing markets by including capabilities that others sell as expensive, separate components. Veeam Backup & Replication v7 removes obstacles to offsite backup with Built-in WAN acceleration and brings to life the full potential for data protection of the virtual infrastructure.”
