Cloud-delivered Internet security services specialist OpenDNS has released the newest version of its Umbrella Web security platform. The new version updates how it identifies, prevents, contains, and informs on advanced cyber-attacks through new predictive detection capabilities.

The company said that these capabilities came from the Umbrella Security Graph, which combines big data-based analytics and predictive classifiers to extract security intelligence from more than 50 million users in 160 countries.

The Umbrella Security Graph was designed to predict malicious attacks before devices can be compromised and data exfiltrated through indexing and cross-referencing data.

OpenDNS has also created new security intelligence categories to improve security. These categories supply data to IT security teams that can view type or behavior of the threat blocked. Teams are also given the ability to recognize device and network identity potentially impacted by threats, enabling a way to prioritize and remediate risks before damage.

OpenDNS CTO Dan Hubbard said in his prepared remarks that the volume and sophistication of attacks have impacted today's security solutions in a drastically negative way.

"By using the big data analytics tools, machine learning, graph theory and related algorithms of the Umbrella Security Graph we can predict where new threats are coming from and block them before they can reach users of the Umbrella Security service," he said.

Umbrella by OpenDNS with the integrated Umbrella Security Graph is available immediately.
