Mobile device security is an imminent concern for the enterprise as more and more workers are accessing business applications from their smartphones. In fact, a recent survey found that risk to these devices is dire and the need for security is now.

To combat risks to business mobile security, two security firms Certes Networks and SOTI have joined forces to make it easier for IT administrators within a company to manage security on devices that access the network.

The two companies are integrating Certes’ CryptoFlow software-defined security with SOTI’s enterprise mobility management (EMM) MobiControl solution to make it easier to provide end-to-end security for mobile applications, Certes said in a press release.

The combination of the two technologies allows IT managers to extend enterprise applications to any user on mobile devices with role-based access control and simplified key management, according to Certes.

“The connected enterprise and ubiquitous mobile devices demand simple but effective controls over application access and data protection,” said Shash Anand, vice president of Strategic Alliances at SOTI, in the release. Integrating CryptoFlow and MobiControl together will do this by allowing companies to develop secure bring-your-own-device (BYOD) policies, he said.

Specifically, CryptoFlow technology from Certes create secure software-defined overlays for each enterprise application, extending from application servers in a data center or cloud, to users on any device across perimeters protected by an enterprise firewall. The solutions segment applications both inside and outside the perimeter through encryption to block lateral movement by hackers if a user is compromised or the firewall is breached, the company said.

Meanwhile, SOTI’s MobiControl is an out-of-the-box provisioning solution that allows for the configuration and deployment of mobile devices across a business network. It can be set up over the air to provide intelligent policy management that can suit the changing needs of a company, according to SOTI.

The combination of the two will enable BYOD policies that can be easily implemented and centrally controlled to ensure strong protection of application flows inside and outside the enterprise perimeter, according to Certes.

It also will simplify per-application keying and role-based access control. This will allow a security manager to manage access for thousands of users based on business goals and user roles, the company said. Additionally, the partnership will allow companies to audit security controls more easily with centralized management to accelerate compliance audits, according to Certes.

The partnership is aimed at meeting the security demand in a new company paradigm in which security must extend outside the typical perimeters of a business network, said Satyam Tyagi, CTO of Certes Networks, in the press release.

“By partnering with SOTI, Certes is delivering a true end-to-end security solution that protects users and enterprise applications from today’s most prominent security threats, while simplifying the deployment of new applications for users on mobile devices,” he said.
