Cloud backup and recovery software provider Asigra rolled out the free beta version of its AWS EBS Snapshot Manager this week, which allows Amazon Web Service customers to automate their AWS EC2 snapshot instances.

The solution is expected to help AWS application administrators and service providers to create a snapshot schedule via a web-based GUI, eliminating the need to write snapshot scripts. Asigra said Snapshot Manager will subsequently help to reduce development time and resources needed to run the typical AWS instance.

Asigra said the addition of the AWS EBS Snapshot Manager marks the company’s largest data protection offering to date across physical, virtual, cloud and mobile computing environments. And with AWS currently cemented as the leading cloud infrastructure as a service offering in the market, Asigra believes its latest solution will help users secure their environments and simplify their security procedures.

“It is difficult to perform and manage snapshots of virtual machines in an Amazon environment—in fact, it can be painful for many administrators because of the complexity and absence of automation or policy-based controls,” said Eran Farajun, executive vice president of Asigra, in a statement. “The free Asigra AWS EBS Snapshot Manager solves these problems while eliminating the need for companies to rely on backup or disaster recovery point solutions to ensure recovery.”

All of Asigra’s AWS EBS Snapshot Manager’s features can be accessed via a single pane of glass, and the solution will allow users to schedule snapshots at any time, according to the announcement.

Interested customers can register for the beta at Asigra’s website, with the solution expected to be on display during AWS re:Invent in Las Vegas. The company said all managed service providers will receive AWS EBS Snapshot Manager for free with no cost self-service co-branding included.
