Apple is no stranger to security issues, but a new article says the company’s latest problem shows it’s moved beyond “incompetency” to “apathy.”

Forbes.com highlights research from Sophos that shows Snow Leopard, a new operating system from Apple, actually integrates an old version of the Adobe Flash player – the very same Flash player that is known to be vulnerable to hackers who want to put malware on your computer. Adobe has since patched the problem in updated versions, but installing Snow Leopard would open users up to the old threat.

This isn’t Apple’s first security blunder. Security experts found that the company did something similar in May, integrating an old version of Java into its OSX for Mac. That flaw could allow for a hacker to take over control of your computer. That took Apple about a month to fix.

Of course, one of the best-known security missteps, according to Forbes, was a flaw in Apple’s iphone text-messaging software, which experts say would have given hackers the chance to take over your phone and spread a viral attack.

Apple didn’t respond to Forbes’ request for an interview.
