Asia-Pacific carrier Pacnet announced Monday it is restructuring the sales organization to create two separate divisions  Enterprise Markets and Carrier Services  and will create a dedicated Managed Services Unit to focus on the company’s data center platform.

Former EarthLink executive Cardi Prinzi was named president of enterprise markets. John Garrett, most recently Pacnet’s managing director of Southeast Asia, will lead the Carrier Services division. Former Rackspace Managing Director Jim Fagan was named president of managed services.

The appointments are coincident with the company’s announcement of its strategy under new CEO Carl Grivner, who joined the company in July after resigning as CEO of XO Communications in Spring 2011.

Pacnet offers managed data, private line, data center and content delivery services. It owns more than 46,000km of fiber, which is connected to its data centers throughout the Asia Pacific region. Pacnet is headquartered in Hong Kong and Singapore, with offices in all key markets in Asia and North America.

Pacnet’s new strategic plan, launching in the fourth quarter of 2012, will focus on core carrier and enterprise customers. To do this, it will exit the residential Internet and wholesale voice businesses. In addition, it will streamline operations by reducing its global workforce in non-strategic areas by approximately 30 percent, lowering annual expenses by approximately $30 million.

Other plans include leveraging its data-center capacity and introducing additional managed services, such as data management, virtual hosting and security services; expanding its network  reach and capabilities in China; and improve its operating standards with new systems and processes, including a “customer culture” philosophy.

“We understand and appreciate that some of the changes we are making may be difficult but they are necessary to build a stronger Pacnet,” Grivner said in a press statement. Once we have rationalized our operations and completed the planned refinements, we will be better positioned to roll out our new strategy. We also now have in place a new and extremely qualified management team to execute what is planned and we and our shareholders are excited by what this will mean for the business.”

In his new role as president of enterprise markets, Prinzi will source opportunities with enterprises looking to connect into and across the Asia Pacific region and drive sales in this division.  Prinzi told Channel Partners that he also will be charged with growing the company’s indirect sales channels. Prinzi joins the company after three years as executive vice president of marketing for EarthLink Business. Prior to that he was president of New Edge Networks, which was acquired by EarthLink in 2005

In addition to Prinzi, Garrett and Fagan, other members of the management team include CFO Brett Lay, who has been with Pacnet for six years; Andy Lumsden, who has returned to Pacnet as CTO; general counsel, Grace Guang, who has been with Pacnet for seven years, and will take on the additional position of chief of staff; and head of human resources, Anne Adam, who has been with Pacnet for 11 years.
