Integra, the communications and technology solutions provider has expanded its network infrastructure in Minneapolis.

Construction in the city’s central business district will allow Integra to install approximately 1,600 fiber miles in the fourth quarter of 2013. More than 225 downtown-area buildings and 3,000 businesses will have access to Integra’s portfolio of high-bandwidth solutions.

“The construction in Minneapolis marks the largest single network investment made by Integra in eight years that is aimed at expanding our fiber footprint,” said Kevin O’Hara, president and chief executive officer at Integra.

Integra first expanded to Minneapolis in 1998 and then again in 2007 when it acquired Eschelon Telecom. This latest expansion will give more businesses use of the company’s on-network services at bandwidths of up to 100 Gbps, offering access to services such as carrier Ethernet, IP/MPLS VPN and managed and cloud services.

Integra says it’s offering new and current customers fiber-based access to the company’s high-bandwidth long-haul network. In doing so, multi-location customers and data-center providers have access to direct, high-speed connectivity throughout Integra’s 35 metropolitan markets.
