COMPTEL: Omnitron Expands iConverter Network Interface Device Portfolio

Omnitron Systems Technologies Inc. (Booth 909), a provider of fi-ber optic access systems for next-generation Carrier Ethernet networks, today announced the latest additions to its iConverter Network Inter-face Device (NID) portfolio. The four new NIDs are carrier-grade, Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) certified solutions designed for use in telco, ca-ble and utility networks to support copper-to-fiber, fiber-to-fiber and copper-to-copper demarcation with fixed copper, fiber or Small Form Pluggable (SFP) ports.

The new iConverter NIDs are 10/100M2 for 10/100 UTP to 100Fx fiber ap-plications; 2FXM2 for 100Fx fiber-to-fiber applications; GX/TM2 for 10/100/1000 UTP-to-UTP and UTP-to-gigabit fiber applications; and 2GXM2 for gigabit fiber-to-fiber applications.

All four new models provide fiber access for Carrier Ethernet services with MEF 9 and MEF 14 certified compliant demarcation at the customer premises. The new NIDs support the IEEE 802.3ah specification for fault detection and operations, administration and maintenance capabilities in the first mile, and Iometrix cNode end-to-end fault detection and performance monitoring. They feature fixed ports or SFP transceivers that support standard 100BASE-Fx and 1000BASE-X wavelengths, or CWDM technology.

All the NID modules are available as standalone modules and as plug-in modules that can be installed in a variety of compact chassis with mul-tiport configurations for business complexes and multiple-tenant build-ings.

Key features include granular bandwidth controls for tiered service of-ferings, VLAN with Q-in-Q to provide E-Line and E-LAN services, QoS, and extended temperature ranges from -40º to 75º C.

Omnitrons new iConverter NIDs enable the delivery of carrier-grade Ethernet services with advanced OAM features and MEF certification to lower capex and opex, said Doug Baar, Omnitrons vice president of en-gineering. The IEEE 802.3ah standard and Iometrix cNode provide per-formance monitoring to support service-level agreements and fault-detection tools to reduce maintenance costs, while CWDM technology helps maximize existing fiber infrastructure to accommodate growing network bandwidth.

The new iConverter NIDs have integrated SNMP management that can be ac-cessed by Omnitrons NetOutlook network management software, or third-party SNMP management software. NetOutlook provides comprehensive con-figuration, monitoring and fault notification tools at an aggressive price point that includes free software upgrades. Firmware upgrades are also available that can be remotely uploaded via FTP to NIDs in the field. All iConverter products are covered by a lifetime warranty and 24/7 technical support with no service contract fees.
