Distribution Watch: Ingram Micro, Synnex December 2012

With only 11 days until Christmas, I must confess I am biased toward one distributor in particular: A jolly white-bearded man in a red suit whose distribution center is at the North Pole. But until Dec. 24 rolls around, I will keep my eyes focused on the distributors that spread the IT joy. With that in mind, welcome to this week's Distribution Watch.

Distribution Watch: Ingram Micro, Synnex

Santa

With only 11 days until Christmas, I must confess I am biased toward one distributor in particular: A jolly white-bearded man in a red suit whose distribution center is at the North Pole. But until Dec. 24 rolls around, I will keep my eyes focused on the distributors that spread the IT joy. With that in mind, welcome to this week’s Distribution Watch.

This week we’ve got news from Ingram Micro (NYSE: IM) and Synnex (NYSE: SNX), so get those milk and cookies ready, ’cause here we go.

Ingram Micro: The global distributor (kind of like Santa Claus!) has expanded its point of sale solutions portfolio via a new distribution relationship with Equinox Payments.

Under the terms of the new U.S. agreement, Ingram Micro will be named a master distributor of Equinox’s line of payment terminals. The Equinox L5000 in particular, when paired with Equinox’s proprietary Remote Key Injection system, will enable Ingram Micro to download security keys to payment terminals on behalf of Ingram Micro’s channel partners to avoid the cost and time of taking terminals offline and shipping them to secure facilities for key injections.

“The retail market is a strong play for resellers who offer technology solutions that streamline efficiency, add convenience and help companies of all sizes adhere to business regulations and industry compliance requirements,” said Carla Cicero, executive director, U.S. Sales and Vendor Management at Ingram Micro’s Data Capture/POS business unit. “Payment terminals in particular are becoming increasingly popular and present a good ‘in’ for channel partners to engage existing customers and prospects on adopting or refreshing their IT environment to include customer service innovations such as the Equinox L5000.”

Synnex: Santa’s elves know wireless is still a big seller, which is why Synnex’s CONVERGESolv Secure Networking group has created a new turnkey wireless solutions services program for midmarket and mid-level enterprises using Aruba Networks products.

The program, SYNNEX Networking Aruba Program, provides services to resellers in pre-sales support (RF planning and building of bill of materials), marketing assistance, hardware procurement and professional services that include wireless site surveys and installations nationwide for their midmarket customers. The program requires no authorization process and allows resellers to quickly go to market with a wireless offering, according to the company.

The Aruba Networks products included in the SYNNEX Networking Aruba Program are:

  • Aruba Instant: Controller-less Wireless LAN solution that is quick and easy to deploy, yet delivers comprehensive enterprise-grade security, resiliency and scale.

  • Aruba AirWave: Multi-vendor, multi-site network management system providing a single picture of everything affecting the network.

  • S2500/S3500 Mobility Access Switches: A family of mobility access switches that bring user role-based access to wired networks. These Gigabit Ethernet switches operate as high-performance, wired access points when deployed with an Aruba Mobility Controller.

And that’s this week’s Distribution Watch. Check in next week to see if your favorite distributor makes headlines. Until then, I’ll be watching for my favorite distributor–I hear he’s comin’ to town.
