Verizon Wireless has told the FCC it plans to buy two small, regional carriers as it keeps expanding its LTE coverage.

The company, which is the largest mobile service provider in the United States, aims to snap up Golden State Cellular in California and Mobi PCS in Hawaii.

The news comes after Verizon earlier this month said it will purchase Cincinnati Bell’s wireless spectrum licenses and other assets for $210 million.

FierceWireless reported that Verizon Wireless will buy 20-30 MHz of Mobi PCS spectrum in Hawaii, a deal that allows for Mobi PCS to lease 10 MHz so it can keep serving subscribers for 12 months while it looks for ways to move away from being a facilities-based provider.

Meantime, the Golden State Cellular purchase includes spectrum, assets and customers in Amador, Alpine, Calaveras, Tuolumne and Mariposa Counties, Verizon told FierceWireless.

Verizon did not disclose financial details of either transaction.
