Verizon Expands 4G Again Prior to Motorola Droid Bionic Release

Verizon Wireless is at it again, taking its 4G network to another 28 markets this week. That makes 102 U.S. cities with increased speeds offered by Verizons LTE.

The carrier offers nine 4G devices, including three smartphones, a tablet, two hotspots and three USB modems. More are on the way soon of particular interest is the Motorola Droid Bionic smartphone, said to come with a powerful processor and a large, 4.5-inch touchscreen. No release date has been announced, but Verizon Wireless says it will be here before the summer is out.

The cities getting their first taste of Verizons 4G speeds this Thursday include Decatur and Huntsville, Ala.; Colorado Springs, Colo., Portland, Ore.; Springfield, Mass.; and Olympia and Tacoma, Wash. Verizon Wireless promises average download speeds of 5-12 Mbps and 2-5 Mbps on the uplink. Speed tests put the carrier ahead of its competition, but will it hold up?  AT&T is getting set to debut its LTE network later this summer.
