Long-Awaited Nokia Lumia Tablet Release-Date Announcement Likely Soon

There might soon be another tablet PC option for business users who want access to everything Microsoft has to offer. Of course, the general consumer would benefit too.

It’s long been expected that Nokia would launch its own branded tablet based on Microsoft’s Windows operating system; the two already have a smartphone partnership. The latest speculation is that Nokia will hold an announcement about this fabled tablet on Sept. 26 or 27, Windows Phone Central reported.

Many industry insiders have wondered why Microsoft would be keen on Nokia cannibalizing its sales of the Surface, whose sales have been relatively modest. Nokia’s high-end smartphones have received generally positive reviews and have sold well at launch, but haven’t had much staying power. The company is making some inroads with its less expensive models, particularly the Lumia 520, which has become the company’s best-seller thanks to a nice push in emerging markets.
