GO Networks Introduces Cellular Wi-Fi System
GO Networks at CTIA Wireless in Las Vegas on Monday introduced its cellular Wi-Fi system, the outdoor Metro Broadband Wireless (MBW) system that lets carriers deploy metropolitan networks for residential and urban areas, school and corporate campuses, and public spaces.
More service providers are investigating metro Wi-Fi networks to provide subscribers with voice, video, data and mobility services, said Gideon Ben-Efrain, CEO of GO Networks. Our Metro Broadband Wireless system is the first solution to make carrier-grade Wi-Fi services a reality. Its flexible and high-performance architecture was designed to address carriers stringent requirements by delivering the Quality of Service, capacity and scalability needed for multiservice wireless networks supporting applications such as wireless Voice over IP.
The MBW is based on cellular Wi-Fi architecture, featuring a topology similar to the micro/pico cell architecture of existing cellular networks. Roof-mounted, multichannel micro base stations provide the coverage, capacity and quality required for wide area broadband access, according to GO, while single channel, streetlight-mounted pico base stations add coverage in challenging RF environments or areas of high subscriber density.
The system is centrally managed through a base station controller that ties into the carriers backbone network.
The GO MBW WLAN sector base station and wireless network controller are available now. The MBW WLAN pico base station and network management system will be available in the second quarter of 2006.
